Static Website Hosting for Azure Storage now released to Public Preview!

This feature has just been released to the public on 28th June 2018. This is now available in all cloud regions with support in government and sovereign regions is coming soon. This set of storage capabilities allows a cost affective solution for hosting and  integrating applications. On a static site webpages contain static information and code like JavaScript, however dynamics websites depend on server-side code which can be hosted by using Azure Web Apps.

When customers enable static websites on their storage accounts, a new web service endpoint is created in the form of ‘<account name>.<zone name>.web.core.windows.net .

the web service endpoint always allows anonymous read permission access. The web service endpoint returns the index document in the requested directory for both the root and sub directories. When the storage service returns a 404 error the web endpoint will return a custom error document if it is configured.
